Saving money after the Christmas blow out

The massive cost of presents, food, drink and entertainment over Christmas can take its toll on your finances. Families in particular are feeling the post festive pinch, with the amount of toys that it has become mandatory to purchase increasing, along with the cost of gadgets. More and more younger children now expect more expensive games consoles than ever before, and couple this with the current economic down turn, it is becoming more difficult for families to afford the festive period they want to provide for their kids. Even petrol for the mandatory visiting of friends and relatives is getting more expensive, and because all this expense comes at once it can mean that January can be quite lean.
The January Sales pose an obstacle to this; representing perhaps the best time to buy new clothes and other goods; even cheaper goods can still break the bank if you are not careful. If you have to buy something, however, it pays to make sure you are looking in the cheapest places possible in order to ensure you are not paying over the odds.
The question is how to find the cheapest places. There are the traditional methods, such as TV, radio, newspapers and magazines. Every store has a January sale on at the moment, and many of these are advertising on TV and across other mediums, so you can be sure that you know where there are January sales going on. The problem is that what is defined as a January sale does not necessarily constitute money saving to you – this could be down to the items not being what you actually need, or down to the fact that some businesses do not actually offer great discounts, instead preferring to strap a sale sticker to an almost full price item that they simply cannot otherwise shift. Hardly a bargain.
Online discount websites might be the answer for you. If you search for daily deals, or discount vouchers or the like, you can find a number of sites that will give you money off at a wide variety of high street and online stores. These vouchers can be printed, or displayed at the point of sale on your mobile phone. Some services will send you discount vouchers that can be used in-store while you are already there, ensuring that you are making a saving even on merchandise which has already been discounted. If you search the internet before you go out, you know that the deals you can get are worth leaving your home for and spending your money on. |
