Archaeology Guide WoW - Beginner's Guide Part 1

WoW Archaeology Guide

The most important thing you should realize is that Archaeology is purely for fun. It’s not a money-making profession. So, you're not having fun after trying it, can stop anytime. All of the gains that you derive from Archaeology belong only to you. It won't make your character more powerful or help you in your raids. The items that you will collect are mostly to help you learn more about the game. You may occasionally find an artifact such as a pet or a mount, which are novelty pieces. So, your expectations need to be appropriate when playing WoW Archaeology!

Another thing to consider is that in Archaeology, there is no power leveling. It's not possible to purchase any components from the Auction House and power your way up the skill levels like other trade skills. There is lots of travel ling involved with no shortcut. The enjoyable part is looting the artifacts, making it a fun alternative to questing and other combat-oriented activities.

Companion Skills

Since Archaeology is a secondary profession, there are no companion skills. Although you can get some aids from other professions, none of which will make much difference. What are helpful are things that help you to travel more easily. For example, Mages who can help you portal to major cities. Dwarves have a racial that provides them with bonus fragments allowing speedier survey abilities. Scribes have teleport scrolls allowing them to hearth home more regularly, Druids also have Teleporting spell which is used for easy access to northern Kalimdor. For Northend dig sites, the vendor rings that port you to Dalaran are useful. As you can see, there are lots of small bonuses that can be used to help you move around.

Beginning of Your Adventure

Before you begin, you should visit an Archaeology trainer. You can choose to train with Harrison Jones in the Stormwind Library. For Horde players, you can train with Belloc Brightblade, a blood elf inside Grommash Hold in Orgrimmar. You can also train with Dariness the Learned in the Legerdemain Lounge. To look for other trainers in other major cities, you need to ask a city guard to mark their locations in your mini-map.

All the abilities you need are from your trainer. So, no special tools are required. And Surveying is the most important you'll learn. First off consult your continent map that shows the continent you're on by clicking the "Zoom Out" button once after hitting the "M" button to load the map. Once loaded, a few small shovel icons will appear. There are four dig sites on each continent. Choose the dig site you want and fly there. If you want, you can fly there with your flying mount.
