How Google Wallet Works On The Samsung Galaxy Nexus

The new Samsung Galaxy nexus offers the very latest in mobile phone technology with some excellent new features. It is well known that this is the first handset to be shipped with the latest version of the Android operating system named Ice Cream Sandwich but what is not as well known however is the fact that the phone incorporates the new Google Wallet feature.

Google Wallet is a method of paying for items in store or online with your mobile phone. UK users of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be the first to try out this technology as Google are preparing a trial run at several London based outlets during the 2012 Olympics. This is the perfect time to officially launch the platform as there will be thousands of people from all over the world attending various Olympic events in London and also the publicity for the games provides lots of advertising potential for Google. Google Wallet is a virtual wallet that is incorporated inside your Nexus handset. This system stores details of your various debit cards on the phone to enable you to make quick and easy payments at selected retailers. These shops will display a small notice in the window to show you that they can accept Google Wallet payments. When you have picked the goods that you want to purchase simply hold your phone against the designated payment point machine and the transaction is completed. Many major retailers are also allowing you to store details from reward and loyalty cards on the device which means you will never miss out on any bonuses.

The Google Wallet service on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus uses NFC technology. NFC stands for Near Field Communications and it is a set of standards that enable communication between devices by touching them together or holding them a short distance apart. Because NFC works effectively at distances up to 8cm it means that the technology is very secure as you do not have to worry about somebody standing close to you and accessing your details. If security is a concern then Google have added some additional measures to help you safeguard your details. When you first register for the service you are required to set up a PIN number that you will need to enter on your device whenever you make a purchase. In the event that you lose or misplace your handset then you can still contact your bank in order to cancel your cards and therefore prevent any purchases being made on your mobile device.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is one of the most advanced devices currently available and the incorporation of Google Wallet and NFC technology underline that fact. The service looks set to be a huge success when it is officially launched and could quickly become a common method of completing transactions.
