An Introduction To HTC Hub On The Awesome HTC Sensation

In this article I will take a closer look at the HTC Hub feature, which can be found on smartphones with HTC Sense, such as the HTC Sensation. I will provide an overview of what it actually is, and the features it offers users.

HTC Hub – What Is It?
HTC Hub is an application found on HTC smartphones which run the company’s Sense UI, which is their custom Android optimised interface. It allows users to download additional content directly to their smartphone.

What Is Available From HTC Hub?
HTC Hub has a long list of items which are available to download straight to the device. These include plugins, apps, widgets, scenes, skins, wallpapers, ringtones, alarm sounds and notifications sounds. All of these are in addition to those which are already installed on the phone.

Widgets are essentially interactive apps, which are loaded on to the homescreen. There is no need to open them, as they are already functional as they are displayed, unlike an app which has to be open in order to use it. For this reason, most widgets are bigger than an app icon. An example of a popular widget is FriendStream. This is a social networking widget which allows you to view your Twitter and Facebook feeds simultaneously within a single interface. You can also update your status and this will then be displayed on both social networking sites. It takes up an entire screen, but being a widget, it does not need to be opened each time you want to use it.

Notifications sounds and alarm sounds are pretty self explanatory, but HTC Hub allows users to download additional ones should they not be satisfied with the selection already included with the handsets such as the HTC Sensation. Notifications sounds are the tones used to alert users to new SMS messages, emails and social networking notifications.

Aside from HTC Hub, there are a lot of other customisable features included with HTC Sense. Up to 7 homescreens can be assigned, and these can then be loaded with the apps and widgets of the user’s choosing.

Android Market is also an important part of the customisation of handsets like the HTC Sensation. It offers hundreds of thousands of apps, which can all be downloaded directly to the handsets. Its popularity is summed up by the recent announcement from Google (owner of Android), who stated that 10 billion app downloads have now been carried out.

As you can see, features like HTC Hub offer great possibilities to consumers who like to customise various aspects of their smartphones. With the hardware on offer, the HTC Sensation is the ideal showcase for features like HTC Hub.
