The Impressive Blackberry Bold 9790 - An Introduction To Its Key Specifications

Blackberry may not have enjoyed the same success as Android and iOS powered smartphone over the last couple of years, but they have released a number of new smartphones to try and compete. Among these is the new Blackberry Bold 9790.

In this article I will take a closer look at the key features of the latest in the popular Bold range.

The handset measures up at 110x 60x 11.4mm, so it is a pocket friendly device, and certainly very slim. It is also among the lightest smartphones available at just 107 grams. The front of the handset houses the classic Blackberry combo of a screen and full Qwerty keyboard. The keyboard makes the device instantly recognisable as a Blackberry Bold, and offers immediate appeal to those who like to send a lot of text messages and emails. The keyboard also lends itself to editing Microsoft Office document thanks to the built in document viewer. Like its predecessor, the Bold 9900, the Blackberry Bold 9790 has a touchscreen to accompany the keyboard, offering a convenient means of navigating the Blackberry 7.0 OS. Similarly, it also has an optical trackpad which allows user to navigate the interface using only their thumb.

As you would expect from a Blackberry smartphone, the Bold 9790 is well equipped to browse the internet. Wi-Fi offers the fastest and most reliable connection, and has the added bonus of not using up your data allowance should you have such restrictions on your tariff. 3G coverage offers an alternative when you are not within range of a wireless networks, and data download speeds of up to 7.2 megabytes per second can be achieved using this method.

As a camera phone, the Blackberry Bold 9790 is well equipped thanks to the 5 megapixel unit found on most other Blackberry handsets which have been released over the last couple of years. This comes with autofocus, face detection, image stabilisation and LED flash, so there are plenty of tools at the user’s disposal to achieve the desired results. Many of these can be set to automatic though, working behind the scenes to produce good quality still images. As an alternative to sill images, the camera can also be uses to shoot video footage in VGA quality.

Once you have used the camera to capture your photos or videos, you can then store them on the phone thanks to a generous 8 GB of internal storage which can also be used for apps, documents and music files. Should further storage be required, the micro SD slot can be utilised, and this can house a memory card of up to 32 GB, significantly increasing the available storage.

Whilst there is nothing particularly groundbreaking about the Blackberry Bold 9790, it is the ideal upgrade for existing Blackberry fans or those who are looking for something different to the popular iPhone and Android handsets which are currently flooding the market.
