An Overview Of The Awesome Blackberry Torch 9860

The Blackberry Torch 9860 is one of the new upgraded versions of the original 9800 Torch. The main difference between this and its predecessor it the noticeable lack of a physical Qwerty keyboard. In this article I will provide an overview of the key features of the Blackberry Torch 9860 so you can decide if it is the right choice for you when purchasing your next smartphone.

As mentioned, there is no slide out keyboard on this model as there is on the rest of the Torch range. Instead, the front of the handset is dominated by the 3.7 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen, so its form factor and appearance resembles that of most smartphones. The lack of the keyboard also drastically changes the weight and dimensions of the phone, so it is now 135 grams, and measures up at 120x 62x 11.5mm making it a relatively slim and pocket friendly phone.

An important part of smartphone use is browsing the internet, and the Blackberry Torch 9860 is perfectly equipped to do this, with data download speeds of up to 14.4 megabytes per second in areas where 3G coverage is available. This is the same speeds provided by the like if the HTC Sensation and even the new Apple iPhone 4S. As with most new smartphones, Wi-Fi is also included which allows users to browse the internet without using up their precious data allowance.

To store your files such as music, photos, videos, apps and documents, the handset has 2.5 GB of storage as standard, with expandable memory in the form of a microSD card which can accommodate a card of up to 32 GB.

As a camera phone, the Blackberry Torch 9860 is well equipped, with a 5 megapixel with a pixel resolution of 2592x 1944 on hand to take good quality still images along with video footage in 720p high definition. The camera comes with all the usual features such as autofocus, image stabilisation and face detection along with an LED flash which also works when shooting videos.

The operating system of choice is Blackberry OS 7.0, and alongside a powerful 1.2 GHz processor, a great user experience is assured. The processor is among the most powerful single-core processors available, so it really makes a difference in terms of the touchscreen responsiveness, loading and operating times of apps, and graphics when gaming.

There is a lot to like about the Blackberry Torch 9860, and if you prefer a touchscreen to a Qwerty keyboard, it makes a great choice.
