The Impressive HTC Desire S Offers A 5 Megapixel Camera

The HTC Desire S is a feature packed smartphone which offers a number of upgrades of over the original Desire which was released last year. In this article I will take a closer look at some of the key features of the Desire S so you can decide if it is the right smartphone for you.

Screen
The HTC Desire S has a 3.7 inch S-LCD capacitive touchscreen, which does a great job of displaying multimedia thanks to its resolution of 480x 800. So if you like to use your phone for viewing photos, videos, games and website, the HTC Desire S comes highly recommended in this respect.

Internet
If you browse the internet on your phone, you need reliable connections as well as web browsing software. The HTC Desire S utilises 3G coverage for its primary internet connection, providing data download speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps (the same as the HCT Sensation and Desire HD), as well as Wi-Fi which allows users to browse the internet without using data which is useful if you are on a limited data plan. To use Wi-Fi you simply need to login details of a local wireless network. The web browsing software is the default internet app which comes as part of the HTC Sense UI package, although alternative such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Opera Mini are all available for download from the Android Market.

Camera
The HTC Desire S has a 5 megapixel (2592x 1944 pixel resolution) camera which comes with a number of image enhancing features as standard. These include autofocus, LED flash, touch focus and image stabilisation. You can also use the camera to shoot video footage, with setting of up to 720p (high definition) included. There is also a secondary VGA camera which is located on the front of the handset, and this can be used for video calls and self portrait photos.

Operating System
Android v2.3 (aka Gingerbread) which is the latest version, is the operating system of choice for the Desire S. Android has enjoyed increasing popularity over the last couple of years, and the Android Market recently received its 10 billionth download, which shows just how many people use Android devices. Alongside the HTC Sense UI, users are able to customise their handset to a high degree, with multiple homescreens and additional apps, widget and themes available from HTC Hub. All this software is handled by the powerful 1 GHz processor, which a also lends itself to various aspects of the hardware such as the responsiveness of the touchscreen and the loading and operating times of applications.

As you can see, the HTC Desire S has a number of impressive features, and although it may not be on the same level as many newer handsets which offer cutting edge technology, it is a great mid range smartphone, and unless you are a technology enthusiast, you are unlikely to be disappointed by the Desire S. Since HTC has released a number of newer handsets since the Desire S, many UK networks are offering great deals where the handset is provided for free with selected tariffs.
