The Feature Rich Blackberry Bold 9900 Features A TFT Capacitive Touchscreen

The Blackberry Bold 9900 combines the classic styling and Qwerty keyboard functionality of the Bold series, but adds a new twist with its 2.8 inch touchscreen. In this article I will take a closer look at some of the key features of this handset so you can decide if it is the right choice for you.

The handset measures up at 115x 66x 10.5mm, so it is compact and certainly slim. At 130 grams, it is also one on the lightest smartphones available which is sure to prove a bonus to many. The front of the handset houses both the TFT capacitive touchscreen, as well as the full Qwerty keyboard. The screen has a resolution of 640x 480, making it ideal for viewing photos and videos on the move, as well as displaying web pages and games it decent levels of clarity. Although not up to the standard set by the likes of the iPhone 4 or Samsung Galaxy Note, the resolution works well due to the compact dimensions of the screen. The keyboard has the standard Qwerty layout that we are all familiar will, and offers a level of convenience not provided by an on screen keyboard. There, prolific SMS and email users are sure to find this feature very useful.

One of the most important features for many when choosing a new smartphone is the camera. The camera on the Blackberry Bold 9900 operates at 2592x 1944 (5 megapixels), so users can expect good quality still images. The camera comes with the ability to shoot high definition (720p) video footage as well as several image enhancing features such as face detection, image stabilisation and LED flash. Overall, all but the fussiest of users will find that this camera provides everything they could need to take good quality still images.

In areas with 3G connectivity, the Blackberry Bold 9900 provides data download speeds of up to 14.4 megabytes per second, which is among the highest levels available on a smartphone. This means that web pages load quickly and YouTube videos load almost instantly with virtually zero buffering. Wi-Fi is the alternative option on connecting to the web, and offers an even faster connection with the added bonus of not using data which is ideal if you are on a limited data plan.

A 1.2 GHz processor (among the most powerful of single core-processors) is on hand to provide the necessary computing power to run demanding applications, and also lends itself to multitasking (running two or more apps simultaneously), and powering certain aspects of the hardware such as the touchscreen. The processor combines with the Blackberry 7.0 operating system to provide a pleasing user experience.

If you are looking for an alternative to the popular Apple, HTC and Samsung smartphones which everyone seems to have these days, you may want to consider the Blackberry Bold 9900 as your next smartphone. It is available now, with several UK networks offering the handset for free on selected tariffs.
