Understanding the Evolution of T-shirts

A T-shirt (or tee shirt) is essentially a button less shirt that also has no collars and most of the while has not a single pocket. Most T-shirts typically are round necked and short sleeved while others have long sleeves. Although this type of apparel was still adorned in their earliest form it was only in the 1920’s that the cotton t-shirts apparel got their official name which was put up in the English dictionary. In addition to this it was not until wasn’t until 1948 when logo t-shirts were thrown into the lime light. In fact the first of these types of t-shirts were those that used in the election campaigns of New York Governor Thomas Dewey with the slogan;” Dew it with Dewey” across the white tees.

T-shirts became even more popular in the 1950s and the 1960s more so in the Western hemisphere where there was a lot of social solidarity movements as well as a quest for individuality. These were marked not just by the most popular rock and roll bands and their music but also sentiments that reflected the social mood at that time. These sentiments written across both girl t-shirts and those that were considered manly were largely triggered by the college movements that were inspired by the on goings in both the social, cultural and political arena. Today cool t-shirts and funny t-shirts that almost always have a message, subtle as it may be, are the most popular types of t-shirts. It is also noteworthy that although T-shirts were initially put on by just about anyone, today there is a distinction between the kinds of T-shirts that a girl may put on and one that a guy can adorn.

In the course of the revolution of the T-shirt there are now stores that allow one to customize their T-shirt message to their own preferences. This can be done by just about anyone and one does not have to have any particular skills in fabric or fashion design. Once the design is approved the store owners will get down to the design of the shirt and in no time you can purchase your shirt and have it delivered to you. Other than the designs there is also the option of having white tees, black ones, blue and any color that one may fancy. But there is indeed something about these white Indian t-shirts that speak volumes and the message written across just tends to scream.

Digital t-shirts have to be the most contemporary of all T-shirts available in stores today. These are sometimes termed as the New Age T-shirts due to the complex, sophisticated and yet simple message that they pass across. They do not necessarily put into use the usual printed words that most logo t-shirts have, instead they make use of images that may seem eccentric to say the least. But this too is a quest to pass a message and also a quest to stand out and maintain ones individuality.
