Common Fishing Resorts Within South Africa

Fishing resorts are abundantly spread over the southern part of Africa, although they often are relatively remotely nestled. Similar to other game resorts, fishing resorts have gained tremendous popularity. Their attraction is seated in the realization they offer specific fishing opportunities. Their specialities depend on specific species of fish and the challenges these present to the passionate and dedicated sportsmen.

Fishing resorts are skilled around three major types of fish, i.e. trout, tiger fish and marlin, although other types are also available. Streams, dams and the ocean all things considered are not exclusive to 3 species of fish

Popular areas for trout are the Mpumalanga Highveld area of Dullstroom and surrounds, the Eastern Cape highlands around Mc Clear and Elliot plus the Drakensberg area. Fransschoek in the Western Cape in addition has started creating some fishing resorts, though these are still in their start up stage compared to the other more founded places. The Dullstroom region offers remarkably developed trout fishing possibilities with a well developed aiding infrastructure, like motels and specialised fishing tackle providers for the devoted. The flyfishing shop in Dullstroom is in fact distinguished for their offerings on Fly making in particular. This region is easily reached from the Pretoria and Johannesburg regions and provides superb holidaying facilities for the whole household.

Fishing resorts related to tiger fish are situated in Northern Natal round the Pongola area, but the prime areas are viewed to be the Zimbabwean areas around Wankie and the Kariba dam and also Zambia where it borders the Kariba dam. Tiger fish offer a remarkable fishing experience specifically those in the rivers and the Wankie River because they're considered to be leaner and meaner than their dam based cousins, putting up tremendous battle before they're landed, but alas often also lost. Tiger fish have a very bony and hard pallet and unless the hook is firmly lodged in the mouth area of the Tiger fish they tend to dislodge the hook in the battle. Also on offer are Vudu (giant cat fish) and river bream. Bream is an especially good eating fish. A warning though Please beware of crocodiles and Hippo's while fishing these areas - they are around every corner.

The 3rd group of fishing resorts, are those located mainly on the Mozambique coast and entail Marlin. This, obviously, is known as the "big Daddy" of fishing and requires some investment in the sport both from an equipment point of view as well as the cost of hiring a boat, apart from travelling and holiday accommodation costs. There are a few opportunities also off the South African coast with fishing resorts dotted around the St Lucia and Sodwana Bay areas. A safety measure to be taken in this area, as well as the Zimbabwe and Zambia areas, is that of malaria. Malaria is still rather endemic in these areas and it is simply not worth the risk of not using prophylactics.

So, whichever fish species is your passion, there are ample possibilities for perusing your passion and indeed to take the family along. These fishing resorts accommodate a variety of activities and there is no need for kids to be bored. BUT PLEASE Keep your kids (and the wife, if you must) away from the Crocs and the Hippo's.
