Kitchen Flooring Options

So you have decided to redo the flooring in your kitchen. Brilliant idea; flooring makes a world of difference in any home. It will be a tough decision trying to determine which one of the kitchen flooring options is the best for your home, with so many diverse choices available. Kitchen flooring has taken an innovative and modern turn, and can be found in so many different colors, styles, and designs, that you can be imaginative and do anything you dream with your floor. Let's take a look at some of the good and bad kitchen flooring options for your home.

To start with, one option that should almost never be used in the kitchen is carpet. Carpet stains very easily and therefore should not be used in the kitchen where grease is constantly splattering onto your floors. Also, carpet is not sanitary; think of all the germs that could be lodged down inside you carpet from cooking. Perhaps you spill some blood off of uncooked meat; this would be a breeding ground for bacteria if you have carpet kitchen flooring. Additionally, if you have a young child, they may crawl around on this floor and pick up all kinds of bacteria. Carpet is one choice that should be avoided for the kitchen at all costs.

Another choice that is stunning but not very durable for your kitchen is wood flooring. Wood is definitely a beautiful choice, but does not withstand stains and spills like some of the other kitchen flooring options. Also, wood has to be redone every few years in order to remain as luxurious as when you first had it installed. If you do decide to use wood simply because of its beauty, be sure to coat it well with waterproof polyurethane for the best protection. There are many alternatives to wood flooring that are much more inexpensive.

Tile and linoleum are both perfect choices for your new kitchen. Tile takes a little longer to install and costs a little more than linoleum. However, tile will last longer than linoleum flooring. Linoleum does last a long time as well, and is perfect because it comes in a wide variety of colors and styles. Additionally, linoleum and tile are both amazingly easy to clean. Tile is unique because you can make a wide variety of designs by choosing different sizes and colors of tile. Remember however, the larger the tile, the easier this job will be for you. Some people choose more than one size of tile for their kitchen to create a designer look.

No matter which kitchen flooring option you choose, they all have their advantages and disadvantages. Contemplate the cost of the flooring, as well as the amount of time the job will take. Also, take into consideration if you have heavy traveling on your kitchen floor daily, as well as pets and children. By taking these options into thought, you can determine what type of floor is the best kitchen flooring option for you and your family.
