Things to Consider Before Purchasing a Device for Your Ebooks

Ebooks are taking the cyberworld by storm and many internet users are getting hooked day after day. And while these digital books can be used on your computer, some people would rather enjoy reading by using a special device for their digital books. Called as e-readers, they are also now dominating the market. In this article, let us talk about the most important factors to consider when shopping for this device.

Screen

Screens of e-readers may either be LCD or more paper-like with the use of E-ink. Just like other things, each has its own pros and disadvantages . An LCD screen is able to show color and usually comes with touch capability. On the other hand, E-ink looks more book-like and greatly decreases eye strain. It also significantly improves battery life.

For those who can't decide whether they like E-ink or LCD, they can go for e-readers that offer both. Hybrid readers can have LCD touchscreen and electronic display at the same time.

Size

There are many choices when it comes to the size of e-readers. Some of them fit in the pocket of the jeans while some of them are slightly bigger or much bigger. Depending on your idea of comfortable reading, you can choose from the wide array of sizes available. The five-inch screen may sound too small but technology has made it possible to facilitate comfortable reading. However, if you're into larger real estate, a ten-inch screen would probably be more satisfying. This is especially true for ebooks that come with illustrations .

Battery Life

The importance of battery life basically depends on where you plan to primarily use your device. Basic readers without all those bells and whistles can last a lot longer than those which have additional features.

Typically, the battery life is measured by the number of "page turns" and for these basic e-readers, page turns can be as many as 8,000. Meanwhile, those which come with other functions such as web browsing and wi-fi have shorter battery life. Those which come with LCD screens also run out of charge faster than those with electronic ink display.

Interface

The controls for electronic devices are often based on buttons or touchscreens. Sometimes, it can be the combination of both. Units with button controls typically require less power. They are also more accurate . However, compared with touchscreens, button controls are a bit cumbersome to operate. On the other hand, touchscreens are sensitive and easier to use. Then again, they may be laggy at times. They are smudge-prone too and can use up more energy from the battery.

Formats

Finally, you would want to know the file formats of electronic books which the device is able to handle. The more popular are pdf, txt, epub, and HTML. Of course, the more formats an e-reader can play, the better.

These are the important factors you have to take into account before purchasing an e-reader. Getting the best one would surely help you make the most out of your treasured ebooks.
