Christmas Decorating with Ribbon
|
'Tis the season to decorate to your heart's content. The bright, festive colors of Christmas are everywhere from the twinkling lights on houses, to the beautifully | wonderfully decorated trees in front windows. Using ribbon in bold colors | hues and rich textures to decorate can brighten your home with holiday joy.
There are a variety of simple ways to use ribbon around your home this season.
Tree décor
Ribbon is a great alternative to tinsel. It's less cleanup and makes a stunning | striking statement on your Christmas tree. Start at the top and weave wire-edge ribbon through the branches around your tree. Go with one color or multiple colors to accent your tree.
Garlands
Use wire-edge ribbon to create a shapely Christmas garland for your mantel or windows. Insert evenly spaced pushpins or wire nails at the top of your mantel or window frame. Drape one color of wired ribbon across the surface, wrapping around the nails or pins to secure. Allow the ribbon to drape down between each nail about half the length of the hanging tails. Repeat with other colors of ribbon
Custom votives
Turn your simple glass votives into custom holiday luminaries. Cover the votives in overlapping ribbon bands using heat-resistant adhesive. Embellish | Decorate with sequins to add sparkle to the display.
Ornaments
Create colorful | bright ribbon candy canes to use as ornaments or to display in a vase. Wind 3/8-inch ribbon around foam candy cane shapes, securing with foam glue. Finish by gluing a 1/8-inch ribbon in a contrasting color and style over the first ribbon.
Doorways or window frames
Top an opening like a window or doorframe with a simple tree by suspending ball ornaments from a ribbon-wrapped tension rod. Use narrow ribbon to hang the top ball and fishing line for the others. Add a wired-ribbon bow as a tree topper.
Place mats & Trays
To add designer details to a purchased place mat, apply a length of ribbon using no-sew adhesive fabrics tape. Wrap two layers of ribbon around a tray for a colorful holiday trim. Use removable spray adhesive so you can remove the ribbon after Christmas.
For a fresh | polished holiday look, pick colors from a limited palette and practice restraint. Create small but out-of-the-ordinary projects with ribbon for charming | unique creative touches throughout your house.
