Acceptable Levels of Love of Jobs

Roles ironically don't mean that much to those who have them but mean absolutely everything to those that are job-hunting. That's the average person's mentality of jobs and all things that involves the human person. We are definitely a species of extremely developed organisms who usually appreciate the value of things that we don't have or are gone and lost.

It is exceedingly different in the case of career-focused people. They have got an enthusiasm about their jobs that are barely accepted by the normal worker. Feedback like "What the hell is that man working so hard for?" and "He ( or she ) is already bloody rich but works as though there is no more tomorrow. What's so important about the job that it cannot wait?" are usually heard from sometimes jealous co-workers for the usually extremely successful career person.

What galvanizes the career person? There are several possible explanations why somebody may be very "obsessed" with his ( or her ) job. For the average joe to appreciate them, let us outline these career person motivations :

Financial freedom
Craving for recognition
Escape from downcast experience or stress
Choice between the "lesser of 2 evils" such as a troubling spouse or violent hubby
Favorable and rewarding work environment
Natural positive reply to stimulus
Love of the perfect job
Approach

We may have missed a few reasons for the career person's motivation but the list above is fairly substantial as they cover almost all of the inside energy that drives him ( or her ), all lying in the subconscious made to surface with the right impulse.

The motivations that drive the career person are good for the company or institution he ( or she ) is working for but are sometimes a nightmare to associates and / or family. Because of this fervour that gives the career person focus and thus "absolute control and knowledge" of what he ( or she ) is doing, the career person may overdo it and step over boundary lines manifested in the following behavioural patterns :

Domineering and overbearing air
Uncontained egoism and swellheadedness
Foolish requirement on next-to-impossible and usually misunderstood goals
Bringing comrades and subordinates to threatening levels of exhaustion in mind and body
Small or absence of quality time for or maybe hostility to colleagues and family
Too much risk-taking which will affect company image and standing
Insolence even to authorities and superiors

Given the enormous contrast between the indolent employee and the passionate career person, where would you like located in the work performance gamut? Some introspection, not necessarily involving a shrink, may help you strike your level of satisfactory balance between the 2 extremes.
