How to damp proof your basement

Almost every citizen in the world dreams of owning a house at some time in their life. While this dream doesn’t come true to all, to many to whom it does come true, the next challenge is maintenance of the house. Besides the common paint and touch ups, if there is a basement or cellar in the house, damp proofing is the next challenge as basements are prone to be damp mainly during rain and snow seasons.
Damp not only effects the basement, if left unattended there are many problems that it can make to the home and people living in the home. The excess moisture starts various chemical emissions from various damaged furnishings and building materials, which will cause the whole property to be unappealing in the long run. Cough, asthma and wheeze will be common among people living in the premises.
This is why damp proofing the basement and cellar is vital, both to the home and it’s inhabits. Best it to take preventive action at an early stage and monitor periodically. Any small problems identified should be attended to immediately.
Basement tanking is the well known method used to damp proof the basement. But in many cases to solve any existing problems the cause needs to be figured out. Many times the reason is that the ground level is raised and poor maintenance. Also if you notice the trend, the basement tends to be more moist during rainy and snow times. Dampness may not only affect the walls but also the floors and even the roof and windows. In the long run the internal decorations near the walls which tend to get damp will get damaged.
If you have identified the problem, it is best to let an expert find you the best solution. Sometimes they can even help you figure out the reasons behind the problem.
In general all buildings are surrounded by moisture, but how it affects house to house differs depending on the preventive methods taken and regular maintenance. Basement tanking is known to be a very effective method and it is never too late to damp proof your basement today.
