Experience the Royal feeling at Jodhpur

Nestling inside Thar Desert’s depth, is the stranglehold of Rathore kinfolk – Jodhpur, which was at a time capital of the Marwar, Rajasthan’s 2nd largest place after the city Jaipur. So if you want to spend your holidays in an extraordinary manner then make a trip to Jodhpur. You can come across various beautiful and ancient places while on a trip to Jodhpur. You can see Mehranngarh Fort. This fort dominates the Jodhpur city. This fort come in the 3 great forts of Rajasthan situated on the top of the hill. The other 2 forts are Chittaurgarh Fort and Kumbhalgarh Fort. The meaning of the term Mehrangarh means literally “Majestic-Fort”. You can see if from the areas surrounding it and is situated in the heart of the city. There are 3 gates and each gate is built for commemorating specific victory and for reinforcing fort. Though constructed in the year 1806, it was many times renovated. Porches and Carved-panels, ornately adorned windows and walls of Phool Mahal, Daulat Khana, Sileh Khana, Sheesh Mahal and Moti Mahal gives the palace a lively effect. All the palaces that are within the border of Mehrangarh Fort are constructed in unique pattern from past many years. Mehrangarh emerges impregnable, & with sound reason.

Another attractive and famous palace is the Umaid Bhawan Palace, which has been constructed in the twentieth century. It is also called as the Chittar Palace as it is built up of sandstone named – Chittar. There are about three hundred rooms in the palace which are not in any other palace in Rajasthan. In the palace you can find one big theatre, 8 dining-rooms, & banquet hall which can accommodate almost 300 people. One part of palace has been transformed to hotel for the tourists and one part is kept for the purpose of Royal-residence. There is also a swimming pool inside the Palace that has been well designed with the zodiac sign mosaic.

Just near the complex of the fort is the Jaswant Thada which has an elegant look as it is made up of white-marble. You can see the Jodhpur ruler’s portraits that are very rare in this cenotaph.

The center of attraction for the tourists in Jodhpur city is the Clock Tower as well as colorful and vibrant Sardar Market. Here in the market you can purchase handicrafts, silverware, antiques and textiles.

All these were within the premises of the Jodhpur city but there are many more places which are near Jodhpur and you can explore then as well. Mandore, Marwar’s former capital is just 9 kilometers away from north Jodhpur. It is famous for the gardens which houses the deals or royal monuments of various Maharajas. Another famous temple – the Osian Temple is famous for the stairs it has. The most interesting feature of this temple is that no one can ever count the number of stairs in the temple. Mahamandir is also near Jodhpur which is dedicated to the Lord Shiva and the distinct feature of it is that it has 100 pillars.
