Another joystick from Saitek, the Saitek x52 pro is an upgrade on the original Saitek x52. So what do they mean by a hands-on throttle and stick? In short, a HOTAS is a hands and throttle setup, once you open the box you will notice that there are two hardbits in there.
The first one would be the joystick, easily recognizable due to its shape and form factor. The packaged joystick has many triggers and buttons that you would find on most military aircraft. By pushing up, down or left and right you can change how the plane moves as it flies through the air.
The second interesting bit that you may not have seen alot of is the hands on throttle unit. You need a separate throttle unit so that you can get precise control over speed while having some buttons within easy finger reach. Modern jet fighters have a lot of things that need to be controller during flight and to allow the pilot to access these actions without taking their eyes of the air, buttons and switches are placed directly on the throttle unit to allow this. With your attention away from the cockpit you are free to survey your surroundings and increase your spatial awareness. The saitek x52 pro HOTAS is great because it replicates a jet fighter hotas and gives you a whole degree of switches and buttons all within easy finger reach of the main throttle unit itself.
HOTAS stands for hands on throttle and stick. Like the previous Saitek x52, the pro version comes with an updated throttle unit. The best thing about the Saitek x52 pro is that it is one of the cheapest ways to get yourself a very capable HOTAS controller for very realistic price. By playing with a throttle and joystick you are replicating the control scheme that are found in all modern jet fighters this really helps immensely to add to the realism and immersion of any flight simulator you play.
Unlike most HOTAS controllers the saitek x52 pro is a little bit different because it comes with the addition of a small LCD mini panel on the throttle unit itself. If you play Microsoft flight simulator you can for example show is a radio stack however it is programmable to show anything you would want. Although for a casual pilot you may not have immediate use of an LCD panel how of the option is there when you can find an use for it. |
