The kitchen is a room in which you will spend a lot of time and you want everything to be just right. New kitchen cabinets can make or break a room in terms of appearance and functionality. When you choose new kitchen cabinets, you will want to make sure you have enough space for all of your cooking materials. The main different is appearance, but the difference is dramatic. Concealed hinges are attached on the inside of the cabinet so you cannot see them at all when the cabinet door is closed. If you like full overlay cabinets, concealed hinges are probably the best choice because they do not show. Exposed hinges are the more old-fashioned option. They attach to the frame of the cabinet on the outside and are visible even when the door is closed.
The cabinets themselves are not the only consideration; you will also want to think about the drawers. Good quality drawers will allow people to access all of the storage they provide even when they are fully open. When thinking about drawers for your kitchen, you will want to consider joinery, hardware, and height.
There are two types of joinery to think through in terms of drawers: dovetailed joints and butt joints. Dovetailed joints have a series of cuts that interlock and create a strong joint. They are hard to separate and there is no exposed hardware like staples. Butt joints to not interlock and you will be able to see the staples or screws.
The drawer hardware can be full or partial access. Full access means that the back of the drawer can pass the face of the cabinet frame. People can then easily reach the back of the drawer. Partial access drawers do not completely pull out and the back 2 inches of the drawer will always be partially covered.
The depth of the drawer is often most important to the buyer. The face of the drawer is usually the same depth as the drawer itself. Choosing between the deep and shallow options depends on what you want to place in the drawer.
