If you are interested in cars, 2011 has been a bumper year in terms of new car releases and revisions in the sports car market. With new models from Lexus, Aston Martin and BMW and Ferrari amongst others, there is much to choose from if you have a spare few hundred thousand dollars burning a hole in your back pocket. Here we have compiled a list of some of the best sports car releases this year.
Starting this list off is a car that has been hotly anticipated for a number of years now since it was first displayed as a concept car at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, in 2005. Having been in development for over 10 years the LFA has been displayed in a number of guises with differing names though the production spec LFA was officially announced in 2009 along with what seemed like some bold claims. Thankfully the model that has now hit the market is a truly amazing piece of machinery that has been globally recognized as a real contender against the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini.
Aston Martin has recently introduced a model designed to cause even the richest motoring enthusiasts to think twice about putting their hands in their back pockets. The One-77 was first displayed in full at the 2009 Geneva motor show to great critical acclaim, though even at a price tag of over $1.5 million some buyers put down deposits there and then for the range topping supercar.
Hot on the heels of the Lexus LFA has been McLaren's first fully built production car since its astonishing F1 was released nearly 20 years ago. The McLaren MP4-12C, to give it its official name, has been extremely well received amongst journalists and enthusiasts alike. McLaren is known for incorporating industry leading technology in its vehicles, most of which comes directly from its Formula 1 car development program.
Finishing off this list we will take a look at something a little different, the BMW M5. While it is officially classed as a high performance saloon, the M5 has been continuously troubling the supercar elite since it was first introduced over 25 years ago. The newest model, designated the F10, features a twin turbo V8 engine, something that M Sport aficionados are a little up-in-arms about as it is a step away from the traditional naturally aspirated make up of previous models. This new 4.4 liter biturbo layout, however, takes little away from driver enjoyment and actually increases the output of the M5 by more than 50 horsepower over its V10 5 liter (E60) predecessor. |
