Not Sure Whether Or Not To Buy Used Tyres?
|
Owning a vehicle and using it regularly requires quite a lot of financial responsibility. Along with such necessities as road tax and insurance, you must also spend money on maintaining the vehicle to ensure that it is kept in a roadworthy condition. Ignoring this can result in the failing of a part of the vehicle which could quite easily lead to an accident or a breakdown, both of which being situations that the majority of people would want to avoid as much as possible!
Of all regular maintenance costs associated with keeping a vehicle in a roadworthy condition, replacing the vehicle's tyres is often the most expensive, especially if you rack up thousands of road miles each year. The cause of thousands of accidents every single day can be attributed to excessively worn or unsuitable tyres, so making sure that your tyres are in good condition is extremely important. One way that you can reduce this cost significantly is by purchasing and fitting pre-used tyres to your vehicle which can be supplied by any reputable tyre fitter.
Buying used tyres is not as simple as it may sound. Before you spend money on part-worn tyres it is important that those tyres are inspected to ensure that they are within legal tread depth limits, not excessively old, and display an even tread wear rate. Used tyres should also be checked internally for repairs or weak points. Sometimes the best way to observe the structural integrity is by inflating the tyre to its advised limit of pressure.
Used tyres work out to be much cheaper than brand new tyres, which saves you more money for other services such as wheel alignment and balancing. By buying used tyres you are also reducing waste by purchasing a product that would normally be shredded and made into something else, and extending its life. Due to the amount of energy involved in producing tyres and recycling old tyres, you can be sure that by buying used tyres you are doing your bit to help the environment.
With the popularity of online auction sites such as eBay where sellers can advertise almost anything they want, sourcing part-worn tyres yourself is much easier than it used to be. The problem with going down this route is that you are never really sure of the quality of product that you are going to end up with. Unless you visually inspect the tyres yourself before you hand over your hard earned cash, it can be a bit of a risk buying this way. |
