The storage you choose will be very much affected by the look of your home. Unless you want to risk your storage solutions looking completely incongruous then you need to find a solution that fits your specific aesthetic as accurately as possible.
With modern homes, the aesthetic is one that is all about less being more and the same will want to be said for the storage you choose. Floating shelves can give the illusion of extra space whilst simply finding storage solutions that can themselves be stored out of sight may well help you keep the minimalist look that so often accompanies the modern home.
Material will also be important. Whilst oaks and other hardwoods will be the best look for more traditional homes, when it comes to the modern home, metal shelving may well be more appropriate. Gone are the generic pieces of artwork and instead personal touches such as personal mementoes and canvases created from one’s own pictures are far more likely to be displayed. Therefore, the right shelves also need to be able to display items in the right way.
