These can be behaviors that aggressors like thugs and thieves want to see, but when they find a person who is on the ball and actively aware of their surroundings, self assured and possibly the kind to resist, chances are they will pass you by.

A non-lethal weapon like a pepper sprayer or taser might be ideal for your personal protection.
