Learn to Handle Physical Stress

You might be surprised to learn that tension in the body is normally caused by stresses involving the emotions or the mind. The human brain and body has numerous methods in which to manage apprehension and the feeling of being overcome.

Symptoms can be less obvious like muscle aches and colds to the more obvious like tension in your jaw from clenching your teeth or a gnawing sensation in your gut. This article will show you what you can do to gain some relief from your symptoms.

Muscle relaxation. When you are tense or feeling achy, you can use a technique known as Progressive Muscular Relaxation (PMR) to relax your body. First, you tense a particular group of muscles until you can't contract them anymore.

For a few seconds - around three - maintain that position. Next, loosen them up until you are totally relaxed. It will not only help your muscles feel better but it lets your brain know that you are in control.

The first reaction most people have to solving pain issues is to grab an Advil or a Tylenol. Be careful with this. While Advil or Tylenol might be able to provide you with some temporary pain relief, they can cause stomach problems. It could lead to experiencing worse problems than those caused by the stress. Stress is hard on the lining of your stomach which can lead to the onset of a variety of digestive issues, including ulcers. Pain relievers, like Advil, could aggravate the issue. Tread carefully! Call your doctor and set up an appointment if the problem gets worse or you are in doubt after taking a pain reliever.

Massages are a great option, too. Having a professional give you a body massage can be a great way to relieve both physical and emotional stress. The masseuse will physically force your muscles and body to relax which is sometimes all you need to help alleviate the emotional stress you've been feeling and let it go. Many people report feeling better both emotionally and physically after getting a forty five minute massage. If you can't afford a professional, ask someone you love or trust to give you a shoulder rub!

You can enjoy a friend's company while your body relaxes. It's a situation where everyone gets what they want. There are dozens of methods for taking care of stress when it manifests itself physically. You can try stretching and breathing and, of course, seeking professional help and guidance. Quite frankly, when you figure out what is causing your stress, you will be more prepared to eliminate it. Sometimes it is as easy as a sickness finally show up. You probably can cure it with a little medication. Sometimes you will have to do more to find out what is causing your stress, so that you can fix it. Good luck!
