A gift for Oneself

My parents didn’t have a lot of money while I was growing up and my siblings and I were never lavished with gifts. While other children got electronic gadgets and Barbie homes, we were more likely to get books and novels. Our up-bringing however, was still a very happy one.

I worked hard in school, college and later got accepted into a very well-established red-brick university of my choice. Upon leaving university I knew I’d have to work doubly hard in finding employment, considering the current job market. On top of that I had my student loans to pay back. So while a few friends spent a year or two travelling Asia, I took the first office job I could get. Still, I was making good money paying the bills and paying back my loan.

Within a year I’d paid back my loan and I was elated. I wanted to celebrate; feeling like a heavy burden had been lifted off my shoulders. I could start to live my life now and start saving for a mortgage or anything else I desired. I wanted to treat myself to something I felt I deserved. I’d always wanted one of the fancy Citizen Eco-Drive watches. I remember being jealous of my best friend in college when she received a crystal studded Sekonda Seksy watch complete with white leather strap. It was so sophisticated. In comparison my arm had always been void of being able to tell time.

It was time to change that. I wanted a watch just like Mens Diesel Watches, that were timeless and classy and that would go with almost any of my outfits. I also decided on something branded. With that in mind I had a look at a selection of Guess ladies watches. The choices were outstanding. I quickly eliminated the sport or casual watches. I was looking for something simple yet very unique.

In the end it was between the ladies Guess catwalk watch or the ladies Guess mini autograph watch. I went with the gold-plated Guess autograph, deciding that I liked its slim stone studded band and oblong face. I couldn’t wait to show it off!

There are some things that I’ve been taught to value. One of them is the importance of a good education and securing a stable job. The other is to spend my money wisely and know when a good splurge will not just make me happy now, but always. I feel my Guess Ladies Watch is a reminder of what my own hard earned work and money can buy me.
