Seeking More Effective Ways To Fuel Your Car

Most people are sick of rising gasoline prices but don't know how to deal with it. Many people are nowadays getting fuel-efficient vehicles to help cut down on the amount of money spent on gas. It was just recently that fuel prices started to take off to new heights worldwide. This article discusses alternative fuels for our vehicles.

When you talk about alternative fuel, you are in essence talking about any fuel except for petrol or diesel. You have a choice of vehicles that can run on solar energy, electric power or a combination of electricity and gasoline. Now there are even automobiles utilizing water-to-gas technology, which means they are able to supplement their gas by using water. There are reasons why many companies are making the effort to produce vehicles that use alternative fuels. In Europe, the environmental laws have become more rigid and taxes have been imposed on fuel so there was no choice for manufacturers. There may even be additional restrictions on the emissions of greenhouse gases.

Because fossil fuels give out CO2, and that is a greenhouse gas, and most automobiles run on fossil fuel gas, our atmosphere is becoming worse. Because of this, climate changes such as the rise in temperatures are creating havoc to our environment. You might not even know that there are cars that are running on water, fuel cells, solar energy, LPG, and ethanol. Many automobiles that run on LPG, which stands for liquified petroleum gas, run on a mix of butane and propane too. When compressed, its hydrocarbon gases become liquid. This brings down the amount of CO gas emission as well as bring down fuel expenses.

Autos that use solar energy can either produce electricity to run the motor or use it to produce hydrogen. The solar panels are located on the roof of the autos. Some autos use fuels like ethanol which originates from plants. Crops with high levels of carbohydrates, or plants with high levels of sugar are fermented to make alcohol. In Brazil, sugar cane-based ethanol has replaced more or less 200,000 barrels of crude oil every day. They have reduced their toxic emissions by more than 30% with their ethanol powered cars. Cars that run on fuel cells use energy from oxygen and hydrogen that are made from these fuel cells. These cars are very clean because they produce water vapor and heat.

Hybrid vehicles, such as the Toyota Prius, use a few different fuel sources. The advanced technology they use merges an electric-powered motor with a small gas-powered engine. Each component is used differently based on driving speed. When traveling on the freeway, both electricity and fuel are being used while the battery being charged. Searching for alternative energy sources is crucial in finding a resolution our environmental and economic problems.
