Inflation in the last few years has meant that it can be extremely difficult to afford the things you want to buy if you're going to pay full price for them. The basic wage has increased far less than the cost of living, so it makes perfect sense that the amount of people becoming members of online discount sites has increased exponentially, as well as the number of people using more traditional methods of saving money; from wasting less food to cutting coupons out of newspapers.
Unfortunately, more and more high street stores are closing down. Reports suggest that up to half the total number of shops on the high streets in some towns are boarded up and empty, and it doesn't really seem like the end of the recession is in sight. There is, however, an upside to this from the consumer’s viewpoint. With fewer shops around, and customers still having the need to make purchases on a regular basis, competition for business is fiercer, as the stakes are much higher. Companies are going to great lengths to ensure that their customers are visiting their stores and spending money, and as well as the obvious advertising campaigns, this has meant that shops of all sizes are more prepared to offer a great deal to their customers.
It also means that due to the large amount of competition for customers, the deals that will potential attract them are becoming much easier to find. As little as a couple of years ago, to find a substantial discount, people had to buy a certain newspaper on a certain day, usually without any prior knowledge of it, or scour the internet for malware and virus infested sites in the hopes that there is a code somewhere that actually works when it is entered into the box on the checkout screen. Nowadays, there are thriving sites offering deals and discounts, that have been developed into successful business in their own rights, who have genuine money saving offers for their customers.
No longer do you have to search through page after page of potentially dangerous sites on the off chance of finding something; it is now possible to simply type a keyword like discounts into the search engine and the first couple of results will all offer you something you can make use of. To guarantee you'll find something near you, type in the name of your town, for example Preston, and you can be absolutely sure that someone will have something you want. |
