Newel Posts and Caps
Newel posts are the bulky vertical posts that mark any intermediary turns in the staircase, as well as the start and end of the stairway. The newel posts are the main supportive feature for the staircase design. Newel posts usually come in bold designs and are an important feature of the staircase. On top of the newel posts are the newel caps, which are largely decorative features, giving a complete look to the staircase.
Spindles
Spindles are vertical cylindrically symmetric shafts which span the length of the staircase between the baserail and handrail, providing support to the handrail. Spindles are also important safety features, preventing falls between the handrail and baserail.
Baserail
The baserail runs along the bottom of the stairs and is the core support of the stairway. Also, the baserail is an important design feature of the stairway.
Handrail
The best known staircase part, the handrail is a vital safety feature and assists you walking up and down the stairs. As well as being an important safety feature the handrail also provides aesthetic appeal to the stairway.
