Automatic Litter Boxes - Which One To Purchase?
|
Though automatic kitty litter boxes may seem, at first glance, to require less work than having to manually scoop clumps out of normal kitty litter boxes, choosing the incorrect automatic cat litter box may bring you plenty more trouble than you are prepared to take on. For the reason that automatic litterboxes are a relatively new item, a lot of brands fail to be adequately designed. Whilst in cleaning process, the gear and/or the rake could get caught on the feces and hold up. The motor could cause enough noise to wake you from sleep in the middle of the night after your cat takes a dump. Some litterboxes even throw feces across the room during self-cleaning. Based primarily on feedback from some pissed off owners of automatic kitty litter boxes, it is obvious that they feel dissapointed for ever having picked up one.
However, not all automatic litter boxes have major design issues, and a lot of consumers are glad that they made the switch. Although nearly every product has the possibilities of dysfunctioning, some are less certain to cause difficulty for their owners than others. Based on my private experience with several brands of this kind of gadget, plus plenty of the client feedback I have read online, I found the following automatic kitty litter boxes to be the better selection to choose between.
1) Litter Robot
Minutes after a cat goes to the bathroom and leaves, the Litter Robot automatically deposits clumps into a bag below. It is quiet when it operates, and controls odor relatively well. One other big benefit is that it doesn't have lots of on-going costs. The only things that need replacing on a regular basis are premium clumping litter and plastic bags from any grocery store. Despite the fact that the Litter Robot may seem to cost a lot upfront, the low on-going costs will save you a fair amount of cash in the long run. Highly recommended!
2) Petsafe Simply Clean
Unlike other automatic litter boxes, the Petsafe Simply Clean litter box not only goes through the cleaning cycle after a kitty leaves. It steadily moves and deposits clumps into a plastic bag. There is no possibility of kitty getting its claws jammed in any moving components because it is not subjected to any. Another benefit to the continuous cleaning is that odours are cut down to a minimum. The only things that need replacing are premium clumping litter and plastic grocery bags from the grocery store. What's more, in spite of the great quality, the Petsafe litterbox is priced comparatively low as compared to similar products. The only downside is that soft feces would sometimes break into increasingly smaller pieces as the machine revolves, and fail to get carried off by the conveyor. If your kitty has soft fecal material, be ready to have to do a bit of manual scooping occasionally. If this problem doesn't apply to your cat, the Petsafe Simply Clean litterbox would make a wonderful choice by getting the job done at a rather low price.
3) ScoopFree
ScoopFree has the traditional design shared by many automatic boxes, consisting of a rake that drags clumps to a disposable tray after the cat leaves. There is however one thing about ScoopFree that makes it different from other litterboxes: instead of using clumping litter that needs to be replaced regularly, it uses litter crystals that may be made use of over and over again to absorb dampness in the waste to reduce odors. In addition to the low ongoing costs, this litterbox has a low upfront purchase price. The sole continuing cost is for the disposable tray, which needs to be replaced whenever it becomes full. Additionally, this litterbox does not call for a lot of human intervention. The only downsides are that some people find the odor to be inappropriate, and / or that the motor is too loud. At the end, though, I would still recommend this litter box as being one of the best ones now available.
4) Cat Genie
The Cat Genie has a particularly unique design, where it is linked up to the home's piping system and waste is automatically mixed with a sani-solution before getting flushed down the toilet. Instead of common kitty litter, the box comes with granules that are permanent and needs no replacing. After the waste material is gotten rid of, the box would automatically rinse and blow-dry itself. The installation at the beginning could be more troublesome than with other litter boxes, but the fact that it is self-cleaning and self-flushing more than makes up for the initial time investment. Do keep in mind though that the Cat Genie does utilize a sani-solution for self-cleaning, and this will have to be acquired and replaced on a regular basis. Another down side to this litterbox is that, should it ever jam or otherwise breakdown in a way that would require the machine to be disassembled and reassembled, the process can be revolting as you would need to manually clean semi-dissolved waste material. However , considering that the majority of the buyer feedback on this product has been positive, this litter box is still recommended.
You are encouraged to do your own online research before making a purchasing decision. Just do not assume that any automatic cat litter box will do more of the filthy work to make your life easier - some will, and some won't. The more research you do before purchasing, the less certain you will finish up with a massive mess on your hands and a bigger headache, not to mention a lighter wallet. |
