For the one who is too heavy, there are lots of serious dangers to health and quality of life. The annual cost is quite a few tens of billions of dollars in the US for all the similar problems linked to obesity. Needless to say much less is spent for weight loss products and solutions, but it continues to be in the billions annually. The US has been slowly putting on more weight with each passing year, or so it appears. Of course the food and beverage industry does not help matters. The primary issue with so many foods and drinks is they have harmful varieties of fat and are packed with sugar. We will discuss some of the negative implications to health resulting from being obese.
Millions of individuals in the US suffer from Type 2 diabetes, and the prime cause of it points to obesity. What has become even more scary is the rising number of cases of this condition in young people who are also significantly overweight. Obesity is known to cause insulin resistance which is substantial and a precursor to higher levels of glucose levels. There is little doubt that years of consuming high sugar content foods and drinks plays a tremendous role. For years, various warnings have been made about the use of high fructose corn syrup in many soft drinks and other popular beverages. There is merely no comparing between high fructose corn syrup and processed sugar.
Other serious conditions which have been often seen consist of damage to certain joints in the body. The key parts are the weight bearing joints like hips, knees and ankles. The seriously obese person can be at higher risk for joint troubles such as osteoarthritis. Unfortunately the usual procedure of joint replacement is not necessarily a viable option. People that are not obese can generally undergo successful joint replacement surgical treatment. But for many who could reap the benefits of it yet are obese, this is simply not always encouraged. If a joint is replaced, what can generally occur are further side effects after the surgical procedure. The risk here is the large load on the artificial joint could potentially cause it to be unstable.
High blood pressure is a common occurance among those who are obese. As along with many other of our bodily processes, excessive fat puts a severe load on the body. The basis for this as it pertains to the heart is the extra fat tissue still requires blood for nutrition and oxygen. It all leads back to the heart certainly because that is what moves the bloodstream. The high blood pressure is actually a result of this additional demand brought on by the extra weight. There can also be an increase in the pulse rate as it functions in response to all that need.
Obesity places the body in a dangerous state for a wide variety of medical ailments. These are just some of the negative effects taken from a long list of health conditions resulting from severe weight gain. |
