The City of Sydney is the largest and most populated in Australia and New South Wales. The iconic Sydney Opera House is a landmark that symbolises Australia elsewhere in the world. As an international centre for art, commerce, culture, education, entertainment, fashion, music and tourism, Sydney made it to the list of Globalization and World Towns ( GAWC ) 's Alpha + World Towns. Host to major international athletic events including the 1938 Brit Empire Games, the 2000 Summer Olympic Games and the 2003 Rugby World Cup's last match, Sydney fortifies its status as one of the planet's premiere visitor attractions.

An addition to the list in 1988 caught the hearts of the local citizens and visitors. It boasts of 650 species numbering over 6,000 different fish and other aquatic creatures. Sharks can be viewed swimming above visitors through acrylic glass tunnels. A recreation of the Great Barrier Reef coral setting is one of the key exhibits of the public aquarium.
