Personal injury and the home environment

When it comes to personal injury claims, most people associate situations in which you are entitled to pursue financial compensation with places of employment and public areas. However, there are many examples where you are entitled to seek accident compensation following injuries in the home environment.

For instance, if you have a job that involves home visits to carry out services then the owner of that property has a duty of care to ensure your safety whilst you are on the premises. As an example, painters and decorators can often be put at risk if the room in which they are working is not structurally stable e.g. there is a loose floorboard that breaks under the weight of their ladder and causes them to fall and injure themselves.

There are also situations in which you can make injury claims against your employer should you suffer an accident whilst in a home environment. This applies mainly to health visitors and care workers, who carry out a great number of house calls as part of their daily task load.

If you live in rented accommodation, your landlord has a duty of care to ensure you are provided with a safe and secure environment. Therefore if you trip over a raised piece of linoleum in the kitchen or stumble on an unsecure paving stone in the garden, you could be entitled to claim accident compensation for their failure to ensure the property in which you live is properly maintained.

Should you have suffered any of the above incidents, or a personal injury whilst in someone’s home, a legal professional can advise you on the likelihood of you being able to make successful accident claims against the party responsible.

At claimssolicitors.co.uk, our team of legal professionals have extensive experience in dealing with a wide range of personal injury claims involving accidents that have occurred in the home.
