Want to Know More About Animals in Films? Your Questioned Answered

People love animals and this makes them ideal for commercials, TV shows and films. Animals can be incredibly engaging onscreen and over the years there have been millions of animals in films. Some have even been the main stars such as the iconic films Lassie and Black Beauty.

To help you find out more about animals in films here are just a few answers to some common questions.

1. Do animal actors get paid?

Animals in films can earn some big pay checks. For example the American Register Saddle-Bred Stallion used in the 1946 film Black Beauty earned over $5,000 per week during filming. This money is typically paid directly to the owners and the agent may get their cut too.

2. How do animals get into films?

The large majority of animals in films are provided by specialist animal acting agencies. These agencies represent trainers and owners and provide books of animal actors that film producers can choose from. In most cases film crews will prefer to work with professional animal trainers as this makes life on set much easier. Animals will be well-trained and able to 'act' as requested on demand. For example trained horses are able to whinny, rear and play dead on command.

3. Could my pet be in films?

The animal acting industry is incredible competitive. There is big money in this business so you will find professional trainers who spend a lot of time training animals just for acting. This means if you want your pet to have a chance at being in films they will have to be something a bit special. As well as being well-trained they will need to be good natured, confident and have an engaging 'look' that will come across well onscreen.

4. Would I need an agent?

If you want to get your animals in films then it makes sense to get an agent. They will have the contacts you need to start building up a portfolio of work. There are some open casting calls available which you can attend without agent recommendation. However many film teams will want to see previous experience and this can be hard to get without the help of an agent.

Author Resource:- There are some great opportunities out there for animals in films. Professional trainers and specialist agencies can supply a wide range of animal actors for all filming requirements.
