Peristaltic pump

A peristaltic pump is used in laboratories and medical settings. They are most commonly used to pump clean, sterilise or aggressive fluids where cross contamination cannot occur. They are crucial for pumping products that need isolation from the environment. They most often pump IV fluids through an infusion device, pump aggressive chemicals that must not come into contact with the environment and high solids. Peristaltic pumps that are designed for medical use will have additional safety features to ensure users are not put at any risk.

A peristaltic pump works by using pressure and displacement to pump the liquids through a tube. The difference is that the liquid does not come into contact with any other parts of the pump just the tube and this is the main difference between a normal pump and a peristaltic pump. This is why it is used in medical settings to pump sterile liquids as the risk of contamination is eliminated as you will use a sterile tube each time.

There are many different types of peristaltic pump available for use in different settings and to meet the demands of specific tasks. All peristaltic pumps work in the same way. They allow fluid into the hose or tube, the fluid then flows into the pump casing through the hose. Once it is inside the pump casing a rotor with a number of rollers will compress the tube forcing the liquid on through the pump and into the required destination. This type of pumping technique is known as peristalsis so this is why it is called a peristaltic pump.

If you work in a medical or laboratory setting then you may also need an automated lipidic cubic phase instrument. Lipidic cubic phase analysis work is very complex and an automated lipidic cubic phase machine will automate the method of crystallizing proteins using lipidic mesophase giving highly accurate and precise results compared to attempting this manually by hand. Peristaltic pump equipment and lipidic cubic phase equipment is likely to be available from the same suppliers and you can find suppliers by searching online.
