When waste materials are dumped into a burrow some kind of landfill is done. This can be counted as an advantage if the waste is free from harmful chemicals. Hence you are getting only one advantage if the wastes are thrown away without reusing them. However, there are also disadvantages of landfill. In a populous city it will be too hard to get a new burrow to dump the wastes. So recycling can be the only solution in such cases.
Throwing away wastes without reusing them has so many disadvantages and recycling has so many advantages that almost all the people will say that recycling should be mandatory. According to a statistical report, only the Americans throw away around twenty seven billion glass containers every year. This is a huge amount of waste. Glass is fully recyclable. If these containers are recycled, a huge amount of raw materials will be saved. In many cases, it costs less to make products from recycled materials than from the raw materials.
Think about the plastic materials. Plastic wastes including polythene make the land unusable for irrigation, as the plastic materials make obstacles in the flow of water and other necessary materials. Plastic materials are recyclable. So, recycle of plastic wastes will save the environment as well as raw materials. Other chemical products can be more dangerous. A report says that just a gallon of motor--oil can pollute millions of gallons of water. Hence recycling of such materials will save the environment.
Paper products are fully recyclable. Here recycling will reduce the pressure on raw materials like trees; this will reduce the production cost. There are also more advantages of recycling. In many areas of the United States of America, recycling has become mandatory. The above reasons are sufficient to make the people understand why it is mandatory.
The populous countries can be more beneficial from recycling. Like the USA these countries can also take steps to make the recycling mandatory. However, one thing should be remembered that the quality of the products made from the recycled materials should be of original quality. So the recycling processes should be conducted properly.
Our environment is suffering many problems. Shortage of trees is making the world more polluted. Recycling can reduce the pressure on the usage of trees significantly. Recycling can reduce the amount of wastes by 25 to 50 percent. At the end, it can be said that recycling should be mandatory.
