The Advantages of Concrete Driveways

Concrete driveways have many advantages over other kinds of drive. They are relatively cheap to have lain, they can be laid over existing driveways and are very easy to maintain.

Concrete driveways come in a wide array of colours and textures. It does not matter what colour combination you want if you use the right contractor you can achieve it. This means that they can be made to blend in with any environment. They look great outside a 3 bed semi, a mansion or a block of offices.

Maintaining Concrete Driveways Is Easy

Concrete driveways are the easiest kind of drive to maintain. All you need to do is to sweep them in the summer and to hose them down once or twice a year. If you have kerbing you may have to spray the edge where the concrete meets the kerb occasionally because weeds can grow there.

If you live in a very hot climate and have a shiny finish on your concrete drive you will have to periodically get the finish re-done. If you do not the finish will fade, however your concrete drive will still look good just not as shiny.

Things to Consider When Having Concrete Driveways Laid

It is important to remember that once laid a concrete drive is pretty much there for life. Digging it up again can be an expensive, so it is important to take your time and choose wisely. In reality this is also true of any other kind of driveway it really is a case of decide in haste and repent at leisure, so take your time and do your research.

You can have a raised kerb laid with a concrete driveway, but the kerbing may move over time and not stay straight. A much better option with concrete driveways is to have a kerb laid in flat stone or a different colour of concrete that will be level with the rest of the drive.

Without the proper experience laying concrete driveways well is difficult. This means that you should only use experienced firms who are happy to show you their previous work.
