The Massive East Men's Basketball Event is the convention championship tournament in males's basketball for the Big East Conference. The winner receives the convention's computerized bid to the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship. Since 1983, the tournament has been held in Madison Square Backyard, New York City, New York. As such, the tournament is the longest working conference event at anyone website in all of faculty basketball.
In 2011, Connecticut, led by Kemba Walker, grew to become the first and solely workforce within the Large East Match to ever win 5 games in a row in 5 days to win the championship.
The 2009 match featured a six-overtime recreation within the quarterfinals between the Connecticut Huskies and the Syracuse Orange, through which Syracuse prevailed, 127-117. The sport, the second longest in NCAA history, started on the evening of March 12 and ended nearly four hours later in the early morning of March 13.
The sixteen members of the Big East are seeded in the match primarily based on their convention records. Non-conference games are ignored. Ties are broken using an elaborate set of tiebreaker guidelines, with the first two tiebreakers being head-to-head report and common document towards the next best convention team.
Previous to the 2009 tournament, only the top 12 groups in the convention competed. In 2009, the match expanded to include all 16 of the conference's teams. The teams seeded 9 through sixteen play first-round games, teams seeded 5 by means of eight receive a bye to the second round, and the highest 4 groups obtain a double-bye to the quarter finals. |
