Why Every Photographer Needs Photography Insurance

Whether you are a professional or an amateur photographer having photography insurance is important. Good quality camera equipment is expensive and it is fragile too, so not insuring it properly can cost you a lot of money.

Accidents happen and thieves target camera equipment because they know that they can get a lot of money for it, so most photographers end up making a claim on their insurance at some stage.

Finding Good Value Photography Insurance

Years ago, if you wanted photography insurance you had little choice, because very few companies in the UK offered it. Luckily, this has changed and there is now quite a bit of competition, so it is possible, by shopping around, to find good value photography insurance.

To do so takes a little time and research this means that you need to start your search about a month before you current policy is due to expire. This is to give you enough time to ask for quotes from several companies and compare them. Generally speaking you need to allow the companies you ask for quotes about a week to get back to you.

Once you have a few quotes discard the really expensive ones and examine the reasonably priced quotes in more detail. Make sure that the level of cover offered is adequate. If not ask them to re-quote with adequate cover. For this part of the process you need a further week to give them time to respond. If anything in the remaining quotes does not make sense ask for clarification.

Once you have had any questions answered you can narrow your search down to just 2 or 3. Spend the next few days trying to get the price down further by asking for a discount. Give each company the chance to beat the other companies' quotes.

Remember to repeat the process next time your photography insurance is up for renewal. Most company's computer simply spews out a renewal notice that does not take into account any discounts you previously negotiated, so you can pay a lot by not shopping around every year.
