How to Choose the Perfect Flooring for Your Home

Choosing the right kind of flooring for your home can be a complicated and confusing business. Unfortunately, if you want to maximize the comforts of your home, to have peace of mind, and to raise the value of your home, you should give this matter a lot of thought.

There are many types of floors and each type comes in so many designs. As daunting as the task of choosing one may be, it has to be done. And the easiest way to do it is to decide what you really want for your home in terms of style, mood, or character. For example, if you want a contemporary style home, sophisticated laminate floors and vinyl floors will work for you. But if you prefer a traditional or rustic style, you can choose hardwood floors.

You also have to decide what type of flooring will work best for every room. There is no doubt that ceramic tiles are best for kitchens and bathrooms. Ceramic tiles are waterproof and are not as hard to maintain as the other floor types. Bedrooms, however, will feel extra cozy if they have carpeted floors. But if you do not want to worry about the maintenance issues of carpets, you can choose vinyl, a type of resilient flooring that comes with a bit of "give" as opposed to the uncompromised hardness of hardwood, tile, and laminate floors.

Aside from your personal considerations, some flooring types are recommended for certain types of rooms, so you may want to heed public advice too. For example, most home interior experts suggest using ceramic tiles or laminate floors in the entrances and the hallways of your home. Both areas get plenty of traffic and are exposed to dirt and damp from outside; both tiles and laminates are waterproof, resistant to dirt, and very easy to clean. Carpets are also great for offices because they can absorb sound and prevent static from affecting your electrical devices. They also promote comfort and quiet, which are important in an office. The same goes for bedrooms, but experts say that if you want to make your room more personal, you can opt for area rugs instead of wall to wall carpets so you can choose rugs that match your personality.

But you also have to take your budget into consideration. If you cannot afford wall to wall carpeting, which can get quite expensive, you can try decorating with area rugs. And if you cannot afford hardwood but want to achieve a natural, earthy look, you can use wood laminates instead.
