DVI Cables

DVI cables are used to transmit video between a device such as a personal computer onto a display device such as a computer screen or television. Because LCD technology is now widely used in computer screens this has led to the development of DVI (digital video interface) cables. There are a number of different types of DVI cables available and which one you need depends on the device you are using it in. There is standard connector that has been designed for the digital video interface. This comprises of a regular block of 24 pins for the digital signal plus 4 pins either side of an earth pin for transmitting a conventional analogue signal if this is required, so offers great flexibility.

There are four different types of DVI cables, the first being DVI-D single link. This is used to carry only a digital single with no analogue option present. The DVI-D dual link cable has 24 pins which are used to carry an enhanced digital signal for high resolution plasma or LCD screens and has no analogue pins. The DVI-I cables can be used for both digital and analogue signals and is used for graphic cards and monitors to provide both options in one DVI cable. The last type of DVI cables are called DVI-A and these only carry an analogue signal but are used to match one end with a DVI-I connector and the other end with a HD15 connector. If you are unsure which type of DVI cables that you need then you will bale to ask for advice from the retailer and they should be able to tell you which one you need for your device.

If you need DVI cables you may also need RCA cables. RCA cables have three colour coded plugs which connect to three corresponding coloured jacks. RCA cables are used to connect a variety of audio and video devices such as digital cameras and camcorders to televisions or stereos to speaker units. RCA cables tend to be three standard colours that are red and white for left and right audio channels and yellow for composite video. Where they pug in will quite often be colour coded to make it easy to know where to place them. DVI cables and RCA cables are widely available from both high street and online retailers.
