In this day and age we are all conscious of the environment and the impact the way we live has on our environment. However, there is one thing we rarely, if ever, think about and that is the impact the production and disposal of a printer cartridge has on the environment. Because the average household does not use that many each year it is not something that really crosses our mind, but it should be.
Every year in the UK, alone, 45 million empty ink cartridges are sent to landfill. That fact alone has a considerable negative impact on the environment. It is even more alarming when you consider that it will take around 1,000 years for each printer cartridge to degrade.
So what, if anything, can you do to stop your empty printer cartridge from having such a negative impact on the environment? The answer thank goodness is quite a lot and it is not complicated to do either.
What You Can Do To Make Your Printer Cartridge Purchase Greener
The basic answer is to re-cycle or refill your ink cartridges. It is estimated that 15 million litres of oil could be saved each year if the UK recycled or refilled each empty printer cartridge it generates. For every cartridge that is re-manufactured into another cartridge 2.5kg of CO2 is saved.
So if you want a greener printer cartridge the answer is simple re-cycle or re-fill it.
Finding Your Environmentally Friendly Printer Cartridge
The best place to find an environmentally friendly printer cartridge is online. Try typing the make and model of your printer into a search engine followed by the words ‘re-manufactured printer cartridge’. This should bring back a list of suppliers who sell re-manufactured cartridges for your printer. If you do not get any results for your printer, try changing the word re-manufactured to re-cycled or re-filled.
At the very least when it comes to buying a new printer cartridge buy one from a firm that will take your old cartridge from you and recycle or remanufacture it. |
