Towards holistic health through ayurvedic treatment

Ayurveda is a system of alternative medicine native to India. This school of medicine promotes the idea of holistic health through the use of medicinal herbs and roots. While in India and most of Asia, ayurvedic treatment for disorders is a mainstream system of health care, Western medicine treats it as complementary alternative medicine.

Underlying principles

The foundation of ayurveda rests on identifying five elements- fire, earth, water, air and sky which constitute the human body and in fact, the whole universe. Any imbalance between these elements gives rise to various diseases and disorders.

The idea and its realization

Any treatment using ayurvedic methods typically involves use of plant based medicines and extracts to restore balance between the five elements. Sometimes, animal products like milk and bones might be used to treat some disorders. This system of medicine rarely causes any side effects. It focuses on cleansing the body from within, eliminating the natural cause of the problem and thus restores health holistically.

While India is the epicenter of this movement aimed at holistic health, the scope of Ayurveda is rather widespread and presently under study. It is starting to gain acceptance in USA, UK and Sri Lanka.

Answering the unanswerable

Alzheimer’s disease and cancer, show promising responses to ayurvedic treatment under trial. The answer to defying or at least delaying inevitable aging might also be round the corner with a host of antioxidant extracts derived from various plants and roots scientifically proven for their qualities. T. Arjuna has been shown to contribute significantly towards treatment of heart failure and coronary diseases.

Ayurvedic treatments directly impact the disease causing agent, viz., bacteria, virus or fungus by creating adverse conditions, limiting them from spreading further. These tend to have lasting cures unlike contemporary medicine which focuses on killing the disease causing agents as an end result. Relapses, as have been documented, are often worse than any previous incidence and this is why a permanent cure to any disease is important.

Ayurveda as an ideology believes that health lies in one’s body, mind and soul. In simple terms, an such treatments will not only address the issue at hand, but also ensure that the problem is resolved once and for all and does not return.
