Thule bicycle carriers

It is almost an everyday site to see bicycles being carried on specially designed carriers on the rear of vehicles. These carriers may be designed for one or more bicycles, and will be built in such a way that they will not destabilize the vehicle. The days of strapping a bicycle to a roof rack are long gone. As people now enjoy cycling tours of France and other European countries, the safety of the way in which bikes are carried is now a matter of great importance.

Roof mounted.

These bicycle carriers are mounted on roof bars. These bars, which are made of zinc coated metal and then covered in a polyester, and securely fitted to the roof of the carrying vehicle, and special holding fittings are added to the cross bars. The number of vehicles which can be carried in this way depends on the width of the vehicle carrying them, but it is on average possible to carry up to four bicycles in this way. They are securely held and will not be able to be swayed in strong winds. In particular this form of carriage is suitable of lightweight racing bicycles.

Tow bar mounted.

Bicycle carriers can make use of the existing tow bar fittings and are specially adapted to fit onto these tow bars. They will eminently secure, as the tow bar will have been fitted by specialists who will ensure that there is sufficient strength and security for these to be used for carrying the weight of a bike carrier. The bike carrier will also be designed so that when either partially or fully laden with bicycles there is no effect on the stability of the vehicle that is transporting them

Rear mounted

Rear mounted carriers are best suited to estate cars where they can be fitted to the tailgate. They clip on to the top, bottom and sides of the tailgate and will then be supported by a series of bars that ensure the stability of the carrier that may be loaded with bicycles as required. This is a convenient method as the carrier can be seen as a temporary addition.
