Photography Insurance

If you own a good camera it is probably very precious to you and if you lost it you would want to replace. If this is the case it is well worth considering taking out photography insurance. Once people get into photography it is a hobby that absorbs them and usually it becomes a passion leading them to buy more and more little bits of equipment to help them with their hobby. Before they know it they end up with hundreds of pounds worth of equipment, which, if they are not careful, is not covered by any of their existing insurances.

Why Even Amateur Photographers Need Photography Insurance

Many people assume that their house or travel insurance covers their camera. To some extent this is true, but it is dependent on many factors. For a start, not all home insurance policies cover the loss of personal items when they are not in the house. Some do, but there is usually quite a low limit on how much they will pay out on one item and limits on the circumstances they will pay out in. A good camera usually falls well outside of these limits. If there is any hint that your camera was stolen or damaged while you were using it in a semi-professional capacity you may also not be covered. For example, photographing a family wedding using an expensive camera would cause most insurance companies to view your claim for damage or theft of that camera as suspicious and possibly outside the terms of your insurance. The same is true of travel insurance.

Is Photography Insurance For Me?

So, if you have a few hundred pounds worth of camera equipment already photography insurance is definitely for you. It is also worth considering if you have 3 or 4 expensive cameras in the family. Some photography insurance companies will give you a joint policy, which is cheaper than covering each camera.

Beware that professional photography insurance covers you for many other things apart from your equipment, so explain you are an amateur and what you need covered to get the price down.
