Videocalling Using The FaceTime Application On The Powerful iPhone 4 - An Overview

Upon its release last summer, there was a lot of attention paid to some of the key aspects of the Apple iPhone 4. Among these was an application called FaceTime. In this article I will take a closer look at this feature.

FaceTime – What Is It?
FaceTime is an application installed as standard on the Apple iPhone 4 (and also the iPad). It works by allowing users to carry out video calls with other iPhone 4 users who also have the application.

How Does FaceTime Work?
Users who have FaceTime installed on their phone can carry out video calls thanks to the application itself, and also the built in camera located on the front of the handset. It requires both parties to be connected to a Wi-Fi network. Users can then call any of their contacts who have the required software on their iPhone 4 and carry out voice calls where they can actually see the other person on the screen, and also themselves in a separate window at the bottom corner of the screen (again, thanks to the front facing camera)

Whilst FaceTime is an impressive application, there is of course much more offered by the iPhone 4, after all, it is the most popular smartphone in the world. But what are some of its other key features?

Camera
The iPhone 4 has a built in digital camera what operates at 5 megapixels, and has the added bonus of a flash and 720p video recording. Additionally, it has autofocus, touch focus, and face detection as standard so it is easy to take great photos. There is also the aforementioned front facing camera, which is on hand for FaceTime and taking self portrait photos.

AppStore
An iPhone would not be an iPhone if it could not access the AppStore where users can browse and download thousands of apps from several different categories. This is a major part of the appeal of smartphones in general, with other brands offering alternatives such as the Android Market which offers applications for devices which run the Google owned software.

Social Networking Integration
With social networking contributing to the daily lives of millions of people, it is no surprise that Apple has made it easy to stay connected to FaceBook, Twitter and other websites. You can easily upload your photos and videos directly from the camera application straight to FaceBook, and you can check in and tag people at your current location, thanks to the phone’s built in GPS capabilities.

As the most popular mobile phone in the world, the Apple iPhone has it all, and it looks like the manufacturer can expect similar levels of popularity from its upcoming handset, the iPhone 5. It is due for release shortly and looks set to win over millions of fans as the iPhone 4 did.
