The Superb New Nokia N9 Boasts An Impressive Selection Of Specifications

Arguably the most stylish handset to date from the manufacturer, the new Nokia N9 looks like it could be the handset to put Nokia back in the running as one of the top smartphone manufacturers. In recent years, Nokia has suffered losses in market share due to the likes of Apple, Samsung and HTC releasing a plethora of innovative smartphones and Nokia struggled to keep up with their pace.
The N9 though, looks like it could compete with the majority of smartphones currently on the market. So what does this phone have to offer its users? In this article I will give an overview of its key features, so you can decide if it is the right smartphone for you.
The most striking thing about this phone is its styling. With a somewhat minimalistic yet very modern aesthetic, it certainly looks the part. It is will be available in black, pink and blue colour schemes, which add a vivid contrast to the black of the screen. The screen dominates the front of the handset, and is generously proportioned at 3.9 inches. Within these dimensions, a pixel resolution of 480x 854 is on hand to provide superb display quality of the on screen imagery. The screen can also display up to 16 million colours, so the colour rendering is flawless on photos and videos.
Whilst many smartphones have a small amount of onboard storage and a micro SD slot, the Nokia N9 keeps things simple by bypassing the SD slot and simply offering 16/64 GB (dependant on the model), which is ample for the needs of the vast majority of users out there. This allows an entire music collection to be stored in the phone, along with videos, apps, games and other files.
As a web browsing device, the Nokia N9 is great. With both HSDPA and Wi-Fi on hand to offer the most appropriate connection based on local coverage, a great web browsing experience is assured. In areas with 3G coverage, an HSDPA connection provides 14.4 Mbps data download speeds, putting the Nokia N9 on par with the likes of the HTC Desire HD in this respect. The handset also has built in Wi-Fi capabilities, allowing a faster and more secure connection whenever users have the appropriate access to local wireless networks.
If there’s one thing that Nokia does well on its phones, it has to be cameras. After all, this is the company that made this handsets predecessor, the Nokia N8 which boasts a 12 megapixel camera. The N9 does quite have the pixel count to match this, but it is still very high at 8 MP, and as an added bonus this can also shoot 720p HD video footage. The camera produces quality photos and videos and remains easy to use thanks to integrated features such as autofocus, dual-LED flash and face detection.
Doing away with the Symbian OS features on most of its more recent handsets, the Nokia N9 has MeeGo v1.2 as its operating system of choice. This works in conjunction with a powerful 1 GHz processor to provide all the computing power the phone needs to handle demanding tasks and applications.
