Fire alarm systems in Kent
Fire alarm systems are now available on a domestic, as well as a commercial basis, and are now required by law in many establishments.
Domestic.
In homes there is a need to ensure that should a fire occur a form of warning system is available. This may be in the form of smoke detectors which can be bought from DIY stores and which you can fit yourself. If you live in a large house, or a thatched cottage then the need is very significant, as fires can take a long time to be detected, and by then severe damage may have set in.
In apartment blocks it is now law that a communal fire alarm system is installed, so that if a fire is detected in one flat the remaining residents will become aware through the sounding of an alarm system, and can then evacuate the building.
Commercial.
Commercial fire alarms have many applications extending from their use in say a manufacturing environment, through to hospitals and nursing homes. As with the apartment blocks referred to earlier, a smoke detector must be installed in a number of designated areas, and then linked to a central alarm panel. This will be activated when a smoke alarm goes off and will activate alarm bells. At the same time the building will have had a sprinkler system installed, and this will be automatically activated when a fire is detected. It will spray water onto the affected area and will assist in controlling the fire until outside help arrives.

Once fitted, your local fire brigade will be pleased to inspect and will stress that the systems should be regularly maintained and tested. |
