Steel cladding basics

Steel cladding can be used in a variety of formats, depending on the end user’s needs. Its exciting qualities make it the ideal profile product for most developments.

* Steel cladding for roofs – steel cladding used in roof developments is often attractive, resilient and works well with rigorous requirements. Needs such as environment and internal pressures mean that steel cladding in roofs are often coated and designed to resist serious damage. With coatings that are tested to last the lifetime of the product, and colours that are also tested to last its lifetime, there’s often no reason for the end user to choose plain colours or designs and can instead colour to their needs within plan regulations, without worrying about the possibility of these coatings deteriorating.
* Steel cladding for interior walls – compliance needs often require materials used in internal construction to be fire proof, and strong. Walls are designed with texture and colour, again, to match or stand out from the surrounding area. It’s most common to see white, or off white steel walls internally, as they are the most ‘placid’ of colours, but other colours can include yellow, pale green or pale grey. Each has their benefits.
* Steel cladding for exterior walls is designed to withstand all weather conditions, from high summer to deep winter. This means that the steel coating has been developed to withstand attack from damaging UV light and corrosion. These products are also guaranteed for their lifetime of 25+ years.
* Steel cladding on roofs – alongside it’s more traditional design features, such as moulding, and shape, most steel is treated to be repellent – water and snow should just slide off it, without any appreciable accumulation or damage. This aspect of the roofing is an important feature to remember while designing the end user product – there should be room for this to happen without the snow, or water falling into a blind gulley, or enclosed space.

Steel cladding is a versatile product that can be used in a variety of situations and designed to function in various ways – each giving a substantively better product to the end user than other types of cladding.
