GRP Enclosures

As the name might suggest an enclosure is a six sided space used to house anything, be it a tribe of monkeys or a family of penguins. In electrical terms an Enclosure is used to describe the storage space for electrical and electronic equipment in which buttons, switches and displays are effectively and safely housed for both their own protection and that of the general public.

Available in a variety of sizes and dimensions to suit both domestic and industrial use the chances are that even the least electronically minded of the public has probably come into contact with an Enclosure in one form or another and often without even realising it. Whether it’s the external box now fitted to all newly built property encasing the meters and trip switches or a larger “cupboard” housing the cut off switches for an entire section of the electrical grid Enclosures are more common place than we might credit.

It goes without saying that any item with a power source and weather elements don’t mix so the most important factor of an Enclosure is weather proofing. That’s not just keeping the rain out but also ensuring that whatever material is used is immune to the biting cold and brightest of summer days with no danger to befall its contents even in Britain’s changeable climate.

One of the finest materials on the market for Enclosures is Glass Fibre Reinforced Polyester (GRP). Commonly known as Fibreglass GRP is made from a plastic matrix which is reinforced with fine glass fibres. It is strong, hard wearing and robust. Given it’s lightweight properties it is ideal for the construction of an Enclosure and makes for one of the finest options available whatever size, shape or guarantee of longevity is required.

GRP enclosures are fire resistant, provide solid safe storage solutions against all the weather elements imaginable and provide a long lasting and best of all cost effective method of storing all electrics and electronic equipment to ensure the safety of the equipment and any humans or animals within radius to the highest of British and Worldwide standards.
