Choosing the right double mattress

Buying a double mattress can be a bit tricky, because you can't always test it first before you buy. You can't just stroll into the shop and have a good lie down on it and if you buy online. No chance. So how do you go about making sure that the double mattress suits your needs and is comfortable and supportive enough to help you get a good night's rest?

Don't forget that a double mattress is basically for one person. A couple will benefit from extra space, so should opt for at least a queen size. Otherwise they will end up far too cramped and unable to sleep properly.

More and more people are opting for memory foam mattresses these days. Made from visco elastic foam, they adapt to your body's preferred position and help you achieve more natural alignment when you're sleeping in your bed at night. They're pretty long lasting and durable too.

When you're out shopping for your new double mattress, think about a number of different factors. How frequently will the mattress be used? How heavy is the person it is intended for? If you plan ahead and make a good purchase, you new mattress could last for ten years or more. Get it wrong and you're going to have to grin and bear the cost of replacing it much sooner. A combination of research and paying a little extra should pay dividends in terms of improved life span and higher comfort level for the sleeper.

Do the basics before you buy. Check how big your bed is for starters! You'd be amazed how many people forget to do this. When you're looking at mattresses you will notice they are graded according to comfort. The more upmarket options are filled with cotton and wool. Right up at the top end you can get silk fillers as well. Try to stick your budget. Don't get too carried away. You should be able to find something of good quality at a reasonable price.
