What are Tubular Heaters and where are they used?

As well know, any device used to heat is called a heater. While few heaters are used to heat the air/water or any other required fluid; others are mainly used to heat the air for further use in the processes. Hence the name given is air heaters. These heaters are further classified in different categories as per their design, uses, inputs etc. One such important category is explained in detail below.

Tubular Heaters

These heaters are manufactured in a tubular form. They need little power and are still made safe for plugging in. Tubular heaters are used in greenhouses, to prevent pipes from freezing, to dry a small area which is damp or moist. To put in simple words, have you noticed how a hand dryer operates? Well, it has this small tubular heater inside it.
With the advance in all techniques of manufacturing, myriad variety of heaters is available today. Manufacturers allow you to design/ specify your own heater depending on your specific need.
The parameters to take into consideration are –
• maximum wattage required
• maximum voltage allowed
• maximum exhaust
• SCFS
• PGIS etc.

Here, SCFS stands for Standard volumetric Flow Rate. It is a measure of rate of flow of vapors and gases under standard conditions of 15°C (60°F) and standard atmospheric pressure, measured in cubic feet per minute.

And PGIS stands for Pounds per Square Inch Gauge. This value is read directly from the Gauges.

As mentioned earlier, tubular heaters are used in a large range of industries. In medical industry, electrical industry and chemical and fossil fuel industries, heaters are widely required.

Few of the specific examples are mentioned below. Please go through them to understand how they can be used in your factory or business.

1. TO heat CT Scanner – As the name suggests, this heater is used in CT scaneers
2. To heat or keep Blankets warm – Here, very small heaters are used to keep the patient’s blankets warm, alongside other life saving equipments.
3. Hand dryers- They are found in hotels, offices, hospitals, public places and can be found in your house too. Here also small heaters are used.
4. To heat or warm the food using electrical power.
5. To maintain medical or other equipments at some pre decided temperature.

As you must have realized, to maintain a certain temperature can mean to increase or to decrease the available temperature. That is, it may also mean taking the cold air out of the required area. E.g. refrigerator, greenhouses etc. Such heater is called defrost heater.

Apart from these applications, tubular heaters are used in industries for different needs such as melting, heating, drying, etc. Today, highly energy efficient, reliable and robust in design heaters are available widely. One only needs to understand his/her own needs and the required heater can be designed and developed to cater exactly to your needs.

Author Resource:- Backer Heating Technologies is well known to satisfy the warmth needs of its customers in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Using European engineering they provide quality heating products such as tubular heaters, Mylar heater, air heater, PTC heater, defrost heater, polyester heaters.
